Collection: Washable Dog Nappies

A season lasts around three weeks and comes round roughly twice a year. Done with disposables that is several hundred units and a bin bag of plastic per year, for a situation that is entirely predictable. Washable nappies are the obvious answer, provided they fit and provided they don't leak.

Sold in threes, for a reason

One on, one in the wash, one dry and waiting. That rotation is the whole logic of the product. A single pair means washing daily or reaching for disposables halfway through the week, which defeats the point.

Five layers

Against your dog, a moisture-wicking jersey lining pulls liquid away from the skin — the layer that prevents the soreness and irritation that comes from a wet surface sitting in place for hours. Beneath it, three microfibre absorbent layers. Outside, a waterproof PUL shell that keeps everything off your sofa, bed and car seats.

Fit decides everything

Nearly every problem people have with dog nappies is a fit problem wearing a different hat. Too loose and it leaks; too tight and it gets chewed off within the hour. Ours have an elasticated tail hole, elasticated leg openings and adjustable snaps with an extra loop, so you can tune the waist rather than pick the least-wrong of two settings.

Size guide

• XS — waist 16 to 33cm (6.5 to 13 in)
• S — waist 23 to 40cm (9 to 15.7 in)
• M — waist 34 to 58cm (13.5 to 22.7 in)
• L — waist 41 to 70cm (16 to 27.5 in)

Measure around the narrowest part of the waist, just in front of the hind legs. Between two sizes, take the larger. Breed is not a reliable guide — measure.

Two designs

The same nappy comes as a patterned set in white and peach with an animal print, or as a plain set in solid pink, blue and grey. Identical construction; pick whichever you would rather look at.

Not only for seasons

These are used just as often for incontinence in older dogs, excitement urination in young ones, recovery after surgery, and travel or staying in other people's homes.

Washing

Machine wash at 30 to 40 degrees. No fabric softener — it coats the microfibre and reduces absorbency permanently. Line dry or tumble on low.
